Then join our certified dive PADI instructors and divemasters for a morning scuba dive to Roatan’s vibrant reefs. Opt for a snorkel trip (included in the all-inclusive package) or lounge by the clothing-optional pool, letting the sun warm your skin. Maybe sleeping in is your thing. Rich History

The indigenous people of Roatan are called the Garifuna. The Garifuna of Roatan are a resilient people with a history of exile, forced by the British in 1797 from their ancestral home on the island of St. Vincent. Arriving on Roatan, many later migrated to the Honduran coast, where they founded communities like Punta Gorda. The history is evident in visiting Punta Gorda for a cultural change of scenery.

Pirate Lore

Roatán was a major pirate stronghold during the 17th century, with its deep harbors offering ideal hideouts for buccaneers like Henry Morgan, Blackbeard, and John Coxen. The island became a central pirate hub, particularly after the destruction of Port Royal, Jamaica, in 1692, which drove many pirates to relocate to Roatán. John Coxen was a prominent pirate who is believed to have operated from Roatán around 1687 to 1697, and the island city of Roatan, Coxen Hole, is named in his honor.
